This is an absolutely beautiful and lusterous gold coin. The fact that this has survived for 140 years is amazing and that it has survived in this nice of condition is even more incredible. This is a very collectible piece of gold and a wonderful reminder of when our country's money was worth the coin it was minted on.
 
The 1885-S $10 Gold is part of a series of Liberty head gold eagle coins struck from 1866-1907. Struck in San Francisco and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper from a mintage of 228,000 struck.
