This is a famous and highly collecible gold error coin with a double D mint mark.
A beautiful 1911 gold coin that is 90% gold and 10% copper.
 
The 1911-D Repunched D mintmark is a popular variety, and certainly among the most widely pursued of the Saint varieties -- perhaps not surprising given the relative paucity of widely known varieties among any of the 20th-century gold issues. While not a major variety, it is worth pursuing as its value is almost double the price of normal pieces. Astute buyers can cherrypick the variety. Doubling of the D mintmark is seen slightly to the right of the primary mintmark impression.
